THE PUNCH CLUB
That is our Club. It has traditionally met in hotels in and around central London, and currently meets in the Victory Services Club, Seymour Street, where we enjoy excellent fare, service and surroundings, and have done so for the past thirty years. ‘Like minded Gentleman’ can attain membership by attending at least two meetings as a Guest of a Brother, responding at least once to the “Toast to the Guests” and being accepted by the Brothers of the Bowl. There is a one off Membership Fee, an Annual Subscription and an Attendance Fee to each meeting, which covers the cost of the meal and punch ingredients. Brothers who commit a misdemeanour at a meeting can, at the President’s discretion, be awarded ‘a Penalty Bowl’, a token cost towards the cost of a brew, much to the delight of Brother Treasurer, who also accepts payment for ‘Donated Bowls’ in celebration of a Birthday or other special ocassion.
With exception of the two Ladies Nights, when the dress code is Black Tie or Dickensian Costume, for normal meetings formal Lounge Suits and Club Ties are worn. Guests upon acceptance into the Club as members, are usually presented with a Club Tie by their sponsor. At the time of ‘Initiation’ new members are required to confirm that they will endeavour to uphold the traditions of ‘The Club’, will if called upon, take an active part in the meetings and functions and will at all times endeavour to be of regular attendance and do all in their power to preserve the Spirit of Fellowship, the basic tenet of ‘The Punch Club’.
